In France, La Piscine is devoting a summer exhibition to photography, diving into its own collections. Roubaix Photo traces over a century of images, spanning social uses and artistic forms alike: from gelatin silver prints to digital experimentation, from humanist reportage to staged conceptual work.
Artist portraits, scenes of working-class life, textile heritage: the show reveals the richness of Roubaix’s photographic holdings, with works ranging from Jean-Philippe Charbonnier, Achille Vilquin to Mika Shiraiwa, putting images in dialogue with painting, sculpture, graphic arts, ceramics and haute couture — in the cross-disciplinary spirit that defines the museum.
The exhibition serves as a prelude to the bicentennial celebrations of photography, organized from September 2026 to September 2027 by the French Ministry of Culture. Curated by Amandine Delcourt, head of documentation at La Piscine.
Note: guided tours are offered every Saturday from 4:15pm to 5:15pm, from July 11 to September 5, 2026.
